CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Clemson, 29-27, 22-25, 17-25, 22-25, Saturday night (Nov. 3) at Memorial Gymnasium.

Clemson (18-8, 9-6 ACC) hit .236, while Virginia (8-18, 2-13 ACC) hit .166. The Tigers led in blocks 16-7.5.

Junior Emily Rottman (Santa Barbara, Calif.) tallied a career-high 40 digs, the fourth-most in a match in UVa history.

Three Cavaliers recorded double-doubles, including senior Jessica O’Shoney (Austin, Texas), who had 17 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Tori Janowski (Sterling, Va.) had 52 assists and 14 digs, while freshman Natalie Bausback (Carlsbad, Calif.) earned 12 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Morgan Blair (Long Valley, N.J.) had a career-high eight kills with a .538 hitting percentage.

With the 12 kills today, freshman Natalie Bausback (Carlsbad, Calif.) moved into the top 10 on Virginia’s all-time freshman lists. She now has 261.

After a block by Clemson that tied the first set at 20, UVa earned three kills in a row to take a 23-20 lead. The Tigers responded with three consecutive points to tie at 23 and fought off two set points before having one of their own. After a CU attack error tied the set at 27, UVa used an O’Shoney kill and a block by sophomore Blair and Bausback to claim the set, 29-27.

In the second set, Clemson used an 8-2 run in the middle of the set en route to a 25-22 win. The Tigers hit .306 on the way to a 25-17 third set win.

The Tigers clinched the match after hitting .300 in the fourth, while holding the Cavaliers to a .122 hitting percentage. Clemson won the fourth, 25-22.

Moneshia Simmons and Sandra Adeleye led the Tigers with 16 kills apiece.

Up next, the Cavaliers will face Maryland and Boston College on Nov. 9 and Nov. 10, respectively. Both matches’ start time is 7 p.m. at Memorial Gymnasium.
