CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 16 Virginia wrestling team hits the road for the first time in the 2012-13 season on Saturday when it competes in Gardner-Webb’s Movember Duals at Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs, N.C. The Cavaliers will wrestle George Mason at 9 a.m. and Gardner-Webb at 11 a.m. as part of the tri-meet.

Virginia went 3-0 in its season-opening home quad meet last Saturday, defeating Anderson (37-12), Ohio (34-6) and Chattanooga (27-9). Seventh-ranked Matt Snyder (R-Sr., Lewistown, Pa.) snagged the Cavaliers’ top win of the day with a 7-1 decision over then-No. 14 Nick Soto of Chattanooga at 125 pounds; Soto went on to win the Hokie Open the following day.

Nineteen Cavaliers saw time on the mat during the quad meet, with 10 making their UVa dual-meet debuts. Snyder was one of seven Wahoos to win a pair of matches. Joe Spisak (R-So., Boiling Springs, Pa.), Derek Valenti (R-Sr., Newton, N.J.), Jedd Moore (R-Sr., Mount Vernon, Ohio), Nick Sulzer (R-So., Cleveland, Ohio), Jon Fausey (R-Jr., Dalmatia, Pa.) and Stephen Doty (R-Jr., St. Louis, Mo.) also won two matches apiece.

Gardner-Webb and George Mason are both starting their dual seasons on Saturday. UVa last wrestled GMU in February, winning 29-7 in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers last competed against Gardner-Webb on Nov. 6, 2010, in Charlottesville, winning all 10 bouts and posting a 50-0 victory over the Bulldogs.

Virginia travels to the UTC Duals next Friday (Nov. 16) in Chattanooga. The Cavaliers will wrestle Cumberland at 2 p.m. and No. 4 Iowa at 4:30 p.m.; UVa will be wrestling both programs for the first time.
