FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – The Virginia women’s tennis duo of Li Xi (Kunming, China) and Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) finished play on Sunday at the ITA Intercollegiate Indoor Championships as the doubles runner-up. It marked the best doubles performance in school history at a major collegiate tournament.
Xi and Nauta suffered a 6-0, 6-0 loss in the final to the top-ranked duo of Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria of USC on Sunday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The runner-up finish was the second at a major tournament in Virginia history, both coming this year. Earlier in the fall, Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) became the first Cavalier finalist as she was the singles runner-up at the ITA All-American Championships.
The team of Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) and Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) were also in action on Sunday as they won the consolation doubles draw with a 9-8(1) victory over USC’s Gabriella DeSimone and Zoe Scandalis.
The tournament concluded the fall season for the team.
