BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-On the final day of a two-day tri-meet, the No. 10 Virginia women’s swimming and diving team defeated No. 14 Indiana, 226-126, and Penn State, 210-141, Saturday (Nov. 17) at the Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind. The No. 8 UVa men were victorious over No. 24 Penn State, 198-155, but were barely beaten by No. 7 Indiana, 177-176.

Junior Brad Phillips won the 1000 free in 9:07.06, while senior Brady Fox (100 fly), juniors Taylor Grey (200 breast) and Parker Camp (200 free) and freshman Chris Webb (400 IM) all earned second-place finishes to push the Hoosiers to the final event.

Virginia’s top 400 free relay of senior Tom Barrett, sophomore Charlie Rommel, Camp and junior Jonathan Buerger defeated Indiana’s top relay in a time of 3:00.85, but the Hoosiers’ relay was able to touch before UVa’s second squad to propel IU to victory.

On the women’s side, senior Lauren Perdue captured two individual wins in the 50 free (22.55) and the 200 free (1:46.45) and was a part of the 400 free relay that won in a time of 3:21.38.

Freshman Courtney Bartholomew finished off a sweep of the backstroke events for the weekend, taking the 100 back in 53.68, while sophomore Shaun Casey notched a win in the 400 IM in 4:15.44.

Junior Rachel Naurath and sophomore Ellen Williamson, both part of the winning 400 free relay along with Perdue and junior Emily Lloyd, touched second in the 1000 free (9:50.19) and 100 fly (54.62), respectively.

Up next, the Cavaliers travel to Athens, Ga., Nov. 30-Dec. 2 for their final meet of 2012, the Georgia Fall Invite, which is slated to feature squads from California, Georgia and Auburn.
