CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Following Virginia’s season finale at Virginia Tech, UVa’s senior linebacker Steve Greer was named ACC Linebacker of the Week, as announced by the league office today.

Greer (Solon, Ohio) played the best game of his career in his final college contest. Greer led the Cavalier defense with 19 tackles in a 17-14 loss at Virginia Tech. Greer led both teams in the defensive-oriented game with a career output in tackles, including nine solo stops. Greer finished the season with 122 total tackles, which ranks No. 2 in the ACC, and his 376 career tackles ranks No. 6 all-time at UVa. Greer ranks No. 1 among active ACC players in career tackles and Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o is the only active BCS player with more career tackles. Virginia held the Hokies to 303 yards of total offense, almost 100 yards below their season average (399.9).

The honor is the third of Greer’s career and the second of the season. Greer also was named ACC Linebacker of the Week following the Penn State game this year and following UVa’s win at Florida State in 2011.
