CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia football players Oday Aboushi and Steve Greer were honored as College Award winners by the Touchdown Club of Richmond. Aboushi has been named the Touchdown Club’s offensive lineman of the year and Greer for the second year in a row takes home linebacker of the year honors.

Aboushi, Greer and 12 other players from colleges in the Commonwealth of Virginia will be honored at the Dudley Award banquet on Wednesday, December 5, at the Hilton Richmond Hotel.

Aboushi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earlier this week earned first-team All-ACC honors. He also earned an early selection to the 2013 Senior Bowl roster, an honor as one of the top players in the country at his position. Aboushi graded out over 90 percent in all 12 games, including 97 percent against Miami and 94 percent against Penn State – UVa’s two come from behind victories that included game-winning TD drives in the closing minutes. He averaged 10+ knockdown blocks per game.

Greer (Solon, Ohio) was also named to the first-team on the All-ACC squad this week. He is No. 2 in the ACC this year with 122 tackles and his 376 career tackles ranks No. 6 all-time at UVa. Greer ranks No. 1 among active ACC players in career tackles and Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o is the only active BCS player with more career tackles. Greer was twice named ACC Linebacker of the Week in 2012, following a 15-tackle performance against Penn State and a career-high 19-tackle game at Virginia Tech. Greer has been named to the All-ACC squad three times in his UVa career. He was named a second-team honoree in 2011 and an honorable-mention honoree in 2009 as well.

The Touchdown Club of Richmond also honored Old Dominion’s Taylor Heinicke as the offensive back of the year, Richmond’s Ben Edwards as offensive end/wide receiver of the year, the Spiders’ defensive back of the year, Virginia Tech’s Derrick Hopkins as the defensive lineman of the year and B.W. Webb of William & Mary as the special teams player of the year.

The Dudley Award Banquet is open to the public and will be held Wednesday, December 5, at the Hilton Richmond Hotel, 12042 West Broad Street, 7:30 p.m., with a pre-banquet social at 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $40.00 each and may be purchased by contacting Rudy Ward, 804.551.0980, or tdclubofrichmond@verizon.net.

Also at this event, the Dudley Award and the Lanier Award will be presented to the top collegiate player in the state with the Dudley Award going to a NCAA Division I player and the Lanier Award presented to a player from a NCAA Division II, IIII, NAIA and IUSCAA college. The finalists for each award will be featured in the

Richmond Times-Dispatch on Monday with the winner being announced at the banquet on Wednesday.

The Dudley Award is named for the late Bill Dudley, an NFL Hall of Famer who starred at Virginia while the Lanier Award is named for Willie Lanier, also an NFL Hall of Famer who graduated from Richmond’s Maggie Walker High School. The Touchdown Club of Richmond is a sports-social organization that serves to promote the best interests of the American game of football and sports in general, under the guidance of elected officers with the predominate purpose being to recognize worthy athletes for their accomplishments and to encourage them to continue their education and athletic careers.
