ATHENS, Ga.—The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams qualified 17 swimmers to A finals on the second day of preliminaries at the Georgia Fall Invite Saturday morning (Dec. 1) at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga.

In the women’s 400 IM, sophomore Shaun Casey notched a career-best time in 4:13.40, putting her eighth on UVa’s all-time top-10 list. She qualified to be in the A final, but will scratch tonight to rest for relays.

Freshman Haley Durmer (4:18.52) will swim in the B final, while senior Christine Olson (4:19.83) and junior Hillary Petersen (4:21.11) will be in the C final.

In the men’s 400 IM, junior Taylor Grey (3:51.64), sophomore David Ingraham (3:52.20) and junior Brad Phillips (3:53.73) qualified to be in the A final, while freshman Chris Webb (3:54.89), junior Jan Daniec (3:55.84) and senior Nick Montes de Oca’s (3:56.43) times were good enough for the B final. Grey and Daniec will not swim the event this evening.

Sophomore Ellen Williamson (53.45) will swim in the women’s 100 fly final, while sophomores Emily Dicus (54.12) and Shaun Casey (54.19) and freshman Rachel Moore (54.82) qualified for the C final.

Senior Brady Fox (48.38) will swim in the men’s 100 fly final. Classmate Matt Murray (49.27) will compete in the B final, while junior Nathan Hart (49.69) and sophomore Kyle Dudzinski (49.85) will be in the C final.

In the women’s 200 free, senior Lauren Perdue notched the top time in 1:44.39 and will be joined in the A final by junior Rachel Naurath (1:46.61). Junior Caroline Kenney (1:47.67) will swim in the B final, while the C final will feature sophomore Kelly Offutt (1:48.46), junior Emily Lloyd (1:49.08) and sophomore Alison Haulsee (1:49.32).

Senior Tom Barrett (1:36.13), freshman Nick Alexiou (1:37.68) and junior Parker Camp (1:37.74) all made the men’s 200 free final, while junior Jonathan Buerger (1:38.78) is into the B final and Daniec (1:39.05) made the C final. Barrett will scratch to rest for the 800 free relay this evening.

Senior Christine Olson (1:03.34) and freshman Natalie Martin (1:05.10) will compete in the C final of the women’s 100 breast.

In the men’s 100 breast, freshman Yannick Kaeser (55.50) and junior Taylor Grey (55.55) will feature in the A final, while freshman Matheus Martini (56.38) will compete in the B final.

Freshman Courtney Bartholomew qualified for the women’s 100 back final in 52.60, a one-hundredth of a second off her relay leadoff last night (52.59), which moved her into third on Virginia’s all-time list.

Williamson (54.27) and Dicus (54.62) qualified for the B final, but will scratch this evening.

Three Cavaliers qualified for the men’s 100 back final, including junior Jack Murfee (48.28), freshman Luke Papendick (48.60) and Dudzinski (48.62). Fox (48.69), Murray (48.90) and Camp (49.15) qualified to be in the B final, but Camp will scratch.

In the women’s 1-meter diving finals contested in the afternoon, freshman Katie Warburg finished fourth with a score of 273.70, while classmate Becca Corbett (248.05) and sophomore Laura Gartrell (220.05) placed seventh and eighth, respectively.

On the men’s 3-meter boards, sophomore JB Kolod is third after the prelims with a score of 363.50, freshman Carl Buergler (330.95) is 10th, freshman Jordan Sacks (294.30) is 15th and classmate Colby Shinholser (272.55) placed 20th. The men’s 3m final will be contested during tonight’s finals session.

The finals start tonight at 5 p.m. and will also see the 200 medley and 800 free relays contested.
