DAVANAGERE, India – Former Virginia men’s tennis player Sanam Singh (Class of 2011) captured the singles championship at this week’s Futures Tour event in India. It is Singh’s fourth Futures Tour singles title this year.

The tournament’s No. 2 seed with a world ranking of No. 358, Singh won five matches to take the title, losing just one set along the way. In the semifinals, he topped former Duke standout Torsten Wietoska 6-0, 7-6(1) and downed top-seeded N.Sriram Balaji of India 6-2, 7-6(4) in the final.

With the result, Singh will likely have a new career high world ranking when this title is calculated in his results. His current career-high ranking of No. 353 came in October.
