CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia freshman Will Mason (Virginia Beach, Va.) took runner-up honors at 125 pounds Saturday at the Franklin & Marshall Open in Lancaster, Pa. It marked his first college placewinner finish.

Competing unattached, Mason went 3-1 in the tournament, pinning Princeton’s Jake Intrator in just 1:52 in the first round before winning a 6-2 bout against Nassau Community College’s John Pellegrino in the quarterfinals and an 8-2 decision over Navy’s Jericho Urmenita in the semifinals. He dropped a 3-2 decision to Navy’s Patrick Prada in the championship bout. Mason is now 11-9 this season.

Fellow freshmen Dusty Floyd (Alexandria, Va.), M.J. Roberson (Richmond, Va.) and Chris Yankowich (Norristown, Pa.) also competed unattached. Yankowich and Floyd each scored a pair of wins at 149 and 174, respectively, while Roberson recorded a pin over UMBC’s Quentin McClain at 165.
