CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Former Virginia women’s tennis student-athlete Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) has been named Volunteer Assistant Coach, head coach Mark Guilbeau announced Friday.

Fraser was a standout performer for the Cavaliers from 2009-12, leading Virginia to a pair of back-to-back NCAA round of 16 appearances in 2011 and 2012. She finished her UVa career ranked second in career doubles wins (119) and combined wins (221), and third in career singles wins (102). Fraser ranked as high as No. 8 nationally in doubles and No. 15 in singles.

Fraser was a two-time NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship participant and two-time All-ACC honoree. She was named the University of Virginia Female Athlete of the Year in 2012 and earned a pair of ACC All-Academic honors.

“It is such a tremendous positive having Emily Fraser return to UVa,” Guilbeau said. “Emily provided incredible leadership for this program throughout her playing career and having her help lead this team as a volunteer assistant coach is very appropriate and a blessing. Emily has a wealth of tennis knowledge and experience, and she shares so many valuable thoughts, perspectives and physical skills with this team. She is quickly proving to be a great teacher and we are happy and grateful to have her continue on as a member of the women’s tennis program.”

No. 12 Virginia opens its dual season at VCU on Friday, Feb. 1. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
