CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The 11th-ranked Virginia wrestling team wraps up ACC dual action Friday evening when it travels to border rival Maryland for a 7 p.m. clash inside the Comcast Pavilion.

Virginia is 12-3 in duals this season, including a 3-1 mark in ACC matches. The Cavaliers won at eight of 10 weight classes last week against NC State in a 32-7 victory over the Wolfpack. Over the past three ACC duals, UVa has just dropped just five individual bouts.
Six Cavaliers were ranked once again this week in the InterMat rankings, led by seventh-ranked Nick Sulzer (R-So., Cleveland, Ohio) at 165 pounds. Matt Snyder (R-Sr., Lewistown, Pa.) is eighth at 125. The Cavaliers are also represented in InterMat’s top 20 by No. 13 George DiCamillo (Fr., Highland Heights, Ohio) at 133, No. 20 Derek Valenti (R-Sr., Newton, N.J.) at 149, No. 15 Jedd Moore (R-Sr., Mount Vernon, Ohio) at 157 and No. 16 Jon Fausey (R-Jr., Dalmatia, Pa.) at 174.
DiCamillo, Fausey and Moore share the team lead with 25 wins each, while Moore has a team-best 17 bonus-point wins, including eight major decisions and seven technical falls. Sulzer also has 20 wins this year, with 13 resulting in bonus points.
There are three battles of ranked wrestlers on the docket Friday. At 133, DiCamillo is slated to wrestle 16th-ranked Geoffrey Alexander. The 174 match will pit Fausey and fifth-ranked Josh Asper, who was an All-American the past two years at 165 pounds. Snyder will take on Shane Gentry at 125; Gentry is 20th nationally by WIN Magazine this week.
Virginia snapped a five-match losing streak to Maryland last year with a 22-14 victory over the then-No. 14 Terrapins in Charlottesville. Maryland owns a 40-21 advantage in the series. UVa has lost its last three duals in College Park; the Cavaliers’ last win there was Feb. 19, 2005.
Maryland (10-6, 1-1) split a pair of ACC duals at home last weekend, falling 20-19 to then-No. 9 Virginia Tech before rebounding to top North Carolina, 21-16, Saturday. The Terps boast four ranked wrestlers. In addition to the three aforementioned ranked Terrapins, Jimmy Sheptock is ranked seventh nationally at 184. Maryland is particularly strong in the upperweights, with ranked wrestlers and former ACC champions at 174, 184 and 197.
Virginia comes home next weekend for its final two home duals, battling Appalachian State (Feb. 9) and Old Dominion (Feb. 10).
