CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams will split up to compete at a pair of events this weekend. A majority of the team will be in action at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet on Friday and Saturday, while five athletes will be in competing in Seattle at the Husky Classic on Saturday.

The Cavaliers are coming off a strong performance last week at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup at Penn State. Virginia won six events at the meet as the women finished third and the men finished fourth.

Payton Hazzard won the men’s 400m, Ryan Satchell won the men’s triple jump, Jordan Lavender won the women’s 400m and Natalia Kuhnwon the women’s 600m last week. All four are among the 27 Cavaliers competing this week in Blacksburg.

Mark Amirault, who won the title in the mile last week, leads the group of Virginia runners in Seattle. Those five Cavaliers will compete in the men’s and women’s mile and 3000m races against an elite field from around the nation.

Virginia will return to action Feb. 21-23 at the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Blacksburg.
