Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia women’s golf team gets an early start to its spring schedule when it plays in the UCF Challenge Feb. 10-12 at RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla. The 18-team field includes Augusta State, Coastal Carolina, the College of Charleston, East Carolina, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, Louisville, Miami, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oregon State, South Carolina, South Florida, Texas State, Tulane and UCF.

Virginia enters the tournament ranked No. 17 in the Golfweek poll and No. 18 in the Golfstat standings.

Play begins on the par-72, 6,374-yard course at 8:30 a.m. Sunday using split tees. Monday’s second round also starts at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday’s final round begins at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start.

Auburn won last year’s tournament at 1-under 863. The Tigers’ Victoria Trapani took medalist honors at 3-under 213.

The Cavaliers will be paired with North Carolina and UCF in Sunday’s opening round. Virginia’s lineup includes Nicole Agnello, Portland Rosen, Briana Mao, Elizabeth Brightwell and Brittany Altomare. Lauren Coughlin will compete as a non-scoring individual.

Altomare led Virginia in the fall with a 73.50 stroke average for 12 rounds of play. Brightwell was second at 74.17. The Cavaliers had two top-five finishes in the fall, placing second at the Mason Rudolph Championship and fifth at the Tar Heel Invitational.

Altomare is ranked No. 12 in the latest Golfweek individual standings and is listed No. 20 in the latest Golfstat Cup rankings.
