CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (15-12, 7-9 ACC) tries to snap a four-game losing streak, taking on NC State (13-15, 5-11) on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C. It is the second of three games the Cavaliers play this week to close out the regular season.

The Cavaliers, despite losing four games in a row, are still in sixth place in the ACC, two games behind Miami in the battle for the fifth seed in the conference tournament. Virginia is one game ahead of seventh-place Georgia Tech. The ACC Tournament bracket will be announced after the conclusion of the Duke/North Carolina game on Sunday, March 3.

NC State has dropped its last three games, including a 68-48 contest last Sunday (Feb. 24) at North Carolina.

The Cavaliers defeated the Wolfpack, 78-59, on Jan. 13 in Charlottesville. Kelsey Wolfe (Jr., Germantown, Md.) scored 24 points in the game with six assists, three steals, and four rebounds. Virginia had three other players score in double digits in the game, including Telia McCall (Sr., Marietta, Ga.) who had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Wolfe will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in the Maryland game.

McCall did not play in Virginia’s 73-68 loss against Wake Forest. The Cavaliers are 0-3 this season in games that McCall has not appeared in and 0-1 in games in which she has played but was not in the starting lineup.

Without McCall, Virginia has been relying heavily on its rookies. Jaryn Garner (Fr., Swell, N.J.) scored a career-high 10 points against Wake Forest. Faith Randolph (Fr., Derwood, Md.), who has started the last two games in place of Wolfe, is averaging 7.8 points per game in contests she starts this season, much better than her season average of 4.2 points per game. Randolph scored a career-high 12 points at Clemson.

Sarah Imovbioh (So., Abuja, Nigeria) scored 18 points with 18 rebounds against Wake. The 18- rebound performance is tied for the most in a game this season by an ACC player. Imovbioh is averaging 12.6 points in games she starts and 6.0 points in games when she is coming off the bench. She is ranked second in the ACC in field goal shooting percentage, making 58.7 percent of her shots attempts.

Ataira Franklin (Jr., Bowie, Md.) is just outside the top-10 in scoring in the conference, ranked No. 11 with 13.7 points per game. Franklin has scored in double digits in nine of her last ten games. Franklin played all 45 minutes in the overtime contest after playing 40 minutes at Clemson and is second in the ACC in minutes played per game (36.5). Franklin is eighth in the ACC in steals (2.2 per game) and fifth in three-point shooting percentage (38.2 percent). The guard also leads Virginia in blocked shots (18).

Virginia closes out the regular season hosting No. 24 Florida State on Sunday, March 3 at 1 p.m., the lone regular-season meeting between the two teams. The Florida State game will be broadcast on the ACC Regional Networks. It will be also be “Senior Night” with a special pregame ceremony honoring the Cavaliers’ graduating seniors.
