CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Atlantic Coast Conference Champion Virginia women’s swimming and diving team qualified 11 student-athletes for individual events at the 2013 NCAA Championships, which will be held March 21-23 in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Cavaliers will be represented by senior Lauren Perdue, juniors Caroline Kenney and Rachel Naurath, sophomores Shaun Casey, Alison Haulsee, Kelly Offutt, Sarah White and Ellen Williamson and freshmen Courtney Bartholomew, Hanne Borgersen and Haley Durmer.

UVa has qualified at least 10 student-athletes for the sixth consecutive year and it is also the fifth straight season that all five Virginia relays have qualified. Which relays UVa will compete in will be determined at a later date. The Cavaliers’ highest finish at the NCAA meet was seventh in 1988.

Perdue qualified for the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in her career. She has been a 12-time All-American, including a second-place finish in the 200 free in 2011. Perdue missed the 2012 NCAA meet after undergoing back surgery, but recovered in time to make the U.S. Olympic Team and earned a gold medal with the 4×200-meter freestyle relay in London.

Naurath, a five-time All-American, will compete in the 500 free for third consecutive year at the national meet and for the second time in the 200- and 1,650 free events. Kenney, competing in her second NCAA meet, earned honorable mention All-America honors with the 800 free relay in 2012.

Williamson, the 2012 ACC Freshman of the Year, finished sixth in the 200 back and 14th in the 200 IM at last year’s NCAA meet. Haulsee finished 16th in the 200 fly in 2012, while White will also be making her second NCAA appearance.

Casey, Offutt, Bartholomew, Borgersen and Durmer will all be making their NCAA Championship debuts. Offutt (500- and 1,650 free) and Bartholomew (100- and 200 back) each picked up two 2013 ACC individual titles.

The Cavaliers earned their sixth consecutive ACC Championship Feb. 23 in Greensboro, N.C., tying North Carolina for the most consecutive titles in ACC women’s swimming and diving history.

A total of 281 swimmers from 72 different schools qualified for the national meet. Diving competitors will be determined at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships, in which UVa will have five student-athletes in action. The NCAA Zone A Diving meet will be held in Christiansburg, Va., March 15-17.
