UVa Men's Golfers Open Spring Break Trip at Palmetto Intercollegiate

Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia men’s golf team will play the first of two Spring Break tournaments starting Monday, March 11 at the 16th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event runs through Tuesday and will contested at the historic Palmetto Golf Club.

The tournament will feature a 6,617-yard, par-70 setup. The first two rounds of the event will be played on Monday. The tournament will conclude with a single round on Tuesday. The Palmetto Golf Club was founded in 1892 and it is recognized as the fourth oldest golf course in the United States.

In addition to host USC Aiken, this year’s field includes Akron, Augusta State, Clemson, Elon, Francis Marion, Furman, Georgia State, Liberty, Maryland, Nebraska, NC State, Penn, Presbyterian, South Carolina, Virginia, Western Carolina and Wofford.

Clemson won the team title and Virginia’s Ben Kohles claimed individual medalist honors at the 15th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.

Virginia’s Kohles and Clemson’s Crawford Reeves entered the third and final round of the 15th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate tied for first. Playing in the same group on the final day of the event, Kohles (69-70-69=208) narrowly edged out Reeves by posting a 69 in the final round. Reeves (69-70-70=209) carded a 70 in round three. Virginia’s Ben Rusch finished third individually at 212 (74-69-69).

Virginia opened the spring with a fifth-place finish at the 17-team USF Invitational. Denny McCarthy leads the team in stroke average at 72.40.
