Women's Tennis Prepares for Road Tests at Baylor and Texas A&M

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team hits the road for dual matches against No. 29 Baylor and No. 4 Texas A&M on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 12-13.
First serve against Baylor on March 12 is set for 5 p.m. at Hurd Tennis Center in Waco. Virginia’s match against Texas A&M is set for 7 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station.
The Cavaliers (3-4) are coming off a 7-0 win at Maryland on Saturday. Virginia’s Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas), Li Xi (Kunming, China), Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.), Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) posted singles wins against the Terrapins.
Elbaba is ranked No. 10 in singles, while Nauta is ranked No. 61. Elbaba leads Virginia with an 19-5 singles mark and is 3-3 at No. 1 singles in dual action. Nauta is 18-4 overall and 5-0 in dual play.
In doubles against Maryland, Virginia’s Elbaba and Nauta were victorious at No. 1 and Peretz and Xi won at No. 3. Tomljanovic and Vierra also competed at No. 2.
Virginia is 1-2 all-time against Baylor and 0-1 against Texas A&M. Baylor and Texas A&M joined Virginia at the 2013 ITA National Indoors in Charlottesville. Virginia suffered a 4-1 loss to Texas A&M on Feb. 10.
Baylor Ema Burgic is ranked No. 12 in singles, while Megan Horter is ranked No. 113. The Bears’ doubles tandem of Burgic and Victoria Kisialeva is ranked No. 23.
Texas A&M has three ranked singles players. Christina Sanchez-Quintanar is ranked No. 4, while Nazari Urbina is No. 67 and Christina Stancu is No. 83. Stefania Hristov and Stancu are ranked No. 12 in doubles.
