CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.–The Atlantic Coast Conference champion Virginia men’s swimming and diving team qualified nine swimmers for individual events at the 2013 NCAA Championships, which will be held March 28-30 in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Cavaliers will be represented in individual events by seniors Tom Barrett and Matt Murray, juniors Jan Daniec, Taylor Grey, Jack Murfee and Brad Phillips, sophomore David Ingraham and freshmen Nick Alexiou and Luke Papendick.

Barrett, a six-time All-American, returns to the national meet for the third time, while Daniec, Grey and Murray make their second appearances. Grey and Murray are two-time All-Americans, while Daniec placed 13th in the 500 free in 2011. Alexiou, Ingraham, Murfee, Papendick and Phillips will make their NCAA meet debuts.

In addition, the Cavaliers have qualified for all five relays. Juniors Jonathan Buerger and Parker Camp and sophomore Charlie Rommel have been added as relay alternates.

Camp is a three-time All-American, while it will be Buerger and Rommel’s first trip to the NCAA meet.

UVa captured its sixth consecutive ACC title March 2 in Greensboro, N.C. Barrett (200 free), Daniec (1,650 free), Grey (200 breast) and Phillips (500 free) all won individual ACC titles, while Alexiou and Barrett were part of the 800 free relay that claimed conference gold.

Virginia has finished in the top 15 each of the last five years and its highest finish of eighth place came in 2011.

A total of 235 swimmers from 51 different schools qualified for the national meet. Diving competitors will be determined at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships, in which UVa will have four student-athletes in action. The NCAA Zone A Diving meet will be held in Christiansburg, Va., March 15-17.
