CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team will compete in the Blue Gray National Collegiate Tennis Classic on Friday-Sunday, March 15-17.

Joining the Cavaliers (3-6) in the eight-team women’s bracket are Boise State, Marshall, Michigan State, No. 40 Ohio State, Pepperdine, No. 34 Yale and No. 50 Tulane. Each team is guaranteed three matches.

Virginia opens the tournament against Michigan State (10-3) on Friday with the first serve set for 5 p.m. The winner will play the winner of the Yale-Pepperdine match on Saturday. The Cavaliers are 3-0 all-time against the Spartans.

The Lagoon Tennis Center and O’Connor Tennis Center are the main venues for the tournament. The Yarbrough Tennis Center will be used as a backup venue in case of inclement weather.

The Cavaliers are hoping to end a two-match losing streak, dropping matches at No. 36 Baylor (4-3) and No. 3 Texas A&M (5-2) this week. Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) is ranked No. 13 in singles, while Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) is ranked No. 71. Li Xi (Kunming, China), Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.), Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) also competed in singles against Baylor and Texas A&M this week. Tomljanovic won both of her singles matches against the Bears and Aggies.

Virginia claimed the doubles point against the Aggies as Vierra and Nauta won at No. 2 and Elbaba and Xi clinched the doubles point at No. 3. Senior Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) and Tomljanovic competed at No. 1 against Texas A&M.
