CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va – The No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (3-4, 0-2 ACC) opens up a lacrosse doubleheader on Saturday, March 16 at Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville by hosting Princeton (3-1, 1-0 Ivy) at 12 p.m. The No. 9 Virginia men’s lacrosse team finishes the afternoon by hosting No. 12 Ohio State at 3 p.m. One ticket will enable fans to view both games.

The Cavaliers hold a 16-15 edge in the all-time series. The two teams have split the last eight meetings, 4-4. Princeton upset the Cavaliers, 9-7, last season in New Jersey when UVa was ranked No. 10 and Princeton No. 16. The biggest upset in the series was in 2006 when No. 14 Princeton defeated No. 2 UVa, 8-7, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Charlottesville, ending the season for the ACC-Champion Cavaliers.

Princeton is currently unranked, but is receiving votes in both polls.Virginia is averaging 11.5 goals per game to Princeton’s 13.0. Erin McMunn leads Princeton’s attack, averaging 2.75 goals per game. Casey Bocklet (So., South Salem, New York) used a five-goal performance against William & Mary to raise her season average to 3.0 goals per game for the Cavaliers.

Princeton’s Sarah Lloyd leads the team in assists (8), ground balls (11) and draw controls (14). UVa’s Courtney Swan (Vero Beach, Fla.) has 25 draw controls with 10 ground balls. Morgan Stephens (So. Olney, Md.) has won 20 draw controls.

Virginia used 28 players in the William & Mary game, including five players who made their collegiate debuts. Taylor Ranftle (Fr., Hauppauge, N.Y.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career against the Tribe. Maddy Fabiani (Jr., McLean, Va.) made her first career start against William & Mary, logging a ground ball.

Bocklet, who is among the ACC leaders in goals, points, and assists, was added to the Tewaaraton watch list on Thursday (March 14). The Tewaaraton Award watch lists were first announced Feb. 22, and a second round of additions will be announced on April 11 (if applicable). The list will be narrowed to a leading group of 25 Tewaaraton Award nominees that will be announced at a special event on the evening of April 26 at The University Club of Washington, DC. The five women’s finalists will be announced May 9. These finalists will be invited to the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony on May 30 in Washington, D.C. Goalkeeper Kim Kolarik (Sr., Riva, Md.) and defender Megan Dunleavy (Sr., Fairfax Station, Va.) are among the players named on the initial watch list.

The Cavaliers will play a midweek game on Wednesday, March 20 at James Madison. Virginia returns home to host another top-10 ranked team, hosting No. 6 Duke on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m.
