CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Four members of the UVa men’s lacrosse family were inducted into the Virginia Lacrosse Hall of Fame at a ceremony Saturday evening at St. Anne’s-Belfield’s Learning Village. Former UVa players Jack Darrell, Steve Kraus and Rich Werner join current UVa associate head coach Marc Van Arsdale in this year’s class. Inductees must have a tie to the Commonwealth of Virginia, either has a collegiate player or coach, or have a high school connection.

A former head coach at Penn, Van Arsdale returned to UVa in 2002 for his second tenure as an assistant on Dom Starsia’s staff. Since his return to Charlottesville the Cavaliers have won three NCAA titles and he was named the Division I Assistant Coach of the Year in 2006. He has been very active on various lacrosse committees and conducts clinics and camps all over the country. A two-time All-American at Hobart and the USILA DIII Attackman of the Year in 1985, Van Arsdale has also been inducted into the US Lacrosse Western NY Hall of Fame, the Hobart College Hall of Fame and the Geneva Community Sports Hall of Fame. Van Arsdale’s son, Owen Van Arsdale, is currently a sophomore on the UVa men’s lacrosse team.

Darrell, a native of Baltimore, Md., came to UVa in 1960 to play for Gene Corrigan and was named a USILA All-American as a senior in 1964.

Kraus a native of Garden City, N.Y, came to UVa in 1977 and was a USILA All-American in 1980 and 1981. UVa won the 1980 ACC title during Kraus’ time on Grounds.

Werner a native of East Meadow, N.Y., came to UVa in time to help lead UVa to its first NCAA title in 1972. Werner scored three goals in the title game. The four-year letterwinner was a USILA All-American in 1973 and 1975.
