CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams will make their outdoor debuts on Saturday as they host the Virginia Cup at Lannigan Field. The Cavaliers will compete against the men’s and women’s teams from Liberty, Radford and VCU and the women’s team from James Madison.

The field action begins at 9 a.m., with the hammer throw, while running events are scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m., with the 100 meter hurdles. Admission to the meet is free and concessions and merchandise will be available.

Because of an event at John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday evening, please note the following parking situation. Parking will be available in the JPJ lots until 4:30 p.m. and the University Hall, Cage and McCue lots until 5:30 p.m. These lots must be vacated by these times. Parking also will be available in the Emmet/Ivy Garage all day; parking in the garage is free until 5:30 p.m., while all cars entering the garage after 5:30 will be charged $5.

The meet is Virginia’s first home meet of the year. During the indoor season, both the Cavalier men and women finished seventh at the ACC Championships. The teams last competed two weeks ago at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Arkansas. The men’s distance medley relay of Anthony Kostelac, Payton Hazzard, Brandon Burton and Taylor Gilland finished in 10th place, while Vicky Fouhy was 12th in the women’s mile and Dallas Rosewas 13th in women’s triple jump.

The Virginia Cup is the first of three home meets this spring for the Cavaliers. They host the Virginia Invitational next Saturday and the Virginia Challenge in May.
