CHARLOTTESVILLE – The top-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team will open ACC play this weekend as it hosts No. 8 Duke on Friday at 3 p.m., and No. 70 North Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission to both matches is free.

Friday’s match against Duke will either be played outdoors at the Snyder Tennis Center or indoors at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. A decision on the location will be make Friday morning. Visit VirginiaSports.com for the latest information about the match.

The Virginia-Duke match is the first men’s USTA College MatchDay. The USTA is debuting the College MatchDay series this year to highlight top teams and rivalries in college tennis. The goal is to expand the series to one match a week beginning in 2014.

There will be a live audio broadcast of the match on RadioTennis.com and the USTA will have College MatchDay hats for the first 200 fans in attendance. Other promotions include a Kids Zone, appearances by the Cavalier Band and Cavman and a youth clinic with Virginia coaches and student-athletes following the match.

Friday’s match begins the Cavaliers’ quest for their 10th consecutive ACC regular season title. Virginia and Duke met earlier this month in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle. The Cavaliers won that match 4-0 en route to winning the tournament for the fifth time in the past six years.

The Cavaliers enter the weekend with an 11-0 overall record. The Blue Devils are 14-3 overall and 2-0 in the ACC after wins last week over Wake Forest and North Carolina. The Tar Heels are 7-8 overall and 0-2 in the ACC as they visit Virginia Tech on Friday before travelling to Charlottesville.
