INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.–Virginia women’s swimmers completed the second day of the 2013 NCAA Championships Friday (March 22) at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. The Cavaliers had two consolation finalists, while the 800 free relay placed 11th. Virginia now has 32 points and sits in 18th place.

In the 100 back consolation final, freshman Courtney Bartholomew touched first in a time of 51.63, earning honorable mention All-America honors. Bartholomew’s time is the second-fastest mark in school history.

“To have a best time at last meet of the year is great,” Bartholomew said. “I’m really looking forward to the 200 back tomorrow and if I take the same approach I did tonight, I think I can be in the top eight.”

Senior Lauren Perdue placed second in the 200 free consolation final to place 10th overall in 1:44.41 and also earn honorable mention All-America honors.

The 800 free relay of junior Rachel Naurath, Perdue, junior Caroline Kenney and sophomore Ellen Williamson placed 11th in 7:04.60. With the honorable mention All-America nods, it is Perdue’s 14th All-America citation, Naurath’s sixth, Williamson’s third and Kenney’s second honor.

In the morning prelims, the 200 medley relay of Bartholomew, Williamson, sophomore Emily Dicus and junior Emily Lloyd placed 24th in 1:39.68.

Freshman Haley Durmer was 24th overall in the 400 IM in a time of 4:12.82, the sixth-fastest time on UVa’s all-time list. That mark was over a second a half faster than her previous-best time.

The NCAA Championships conclude Saturday (March 23) with the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, platform diving and 400 free relay events being contested.
