Virginia Defeats Boston College, 6-1

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 32 Virginia extended its winning streak to four matches with a 6-1 win over No. 72 Boston College in ACC women’s tennis action Friday afternoon at Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers improve to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in the ACC, while Boston College falls to 7-3, 1-2.
The Cavaliers claimed the doubles point and Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas), Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.), Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) and Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) won their respective singles matches.
Virginia won two of three doubles matches as Li Xi (Kunming, China) and Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) defeated Katya Vasilyev and Ina Kauppila 8-5 at No. 3 and Elbaba and Tomljanovic beat Olga Khmylev and Heini Salonen 8-4 at No. 2. Vierra and Nauta dropped their first doubles match, losing 8-5 against Alex Kelleher and Jessica Wacnik at No. 1.
Boston College’s Salonen tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Xi at No. 4 singles.
Nauta posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Wacnik at No. 1 and Vierra beat Vasilyev 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 to put Virginia up 3-1.
Peretz clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Khmylev at No. 6. Elbaba added a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kelleher at No. 1 and Tomljanovic beat Kelly Barry 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3.
Virginia hosts No. 55 Virginia Tech tomorrow at Snyder Tennis Center. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
