GREENSBORO, N.C.—Virginia rowing’s varsity eight was named the first Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week for the spring season, the conference announced Wednesday (March 27). The Cavalier crew swept three races at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational March 16-17 in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

The crew, composed of senior coxswain Molly Frear (Wilton, Conn.), senior Kristine O’Brien (Massapequa Park, N.Y.), graduate student Sarah Cowburn (Worcestershire, England), junior Fiona Schlesinger (New Maiden, Surrey, UK), sophomore Lizzy Youngling (Westport, Conn.), senior Susanne Grainger (London, Ontario), sophomore Chandler Lally (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and juniors Constanze Duell (Oberschleissheim, Germany) and Elle Murray (Tampa, Fla.) recorded a time of 6:32.10 to defeat No. 18 Louisville (6:39.67) and West Virginia (7:05.50) in its first race on Saturday.

Virginia’s V8 then finished in 6:30.60 in Saturday’s afternoon session, ahead of No. 14 Notre Dame (6:36.02) and Georgetown (6:59.10). On Sunday, with a couple Cavaliers having switched seats, UVa defeated Duke (6:41.48) and Alabama (7:02.24) in a time of 6:27.80.

The Cavaliers return to action April 6-7 for the San Diego Crew Classic in San Diego, Calif.
