The Virginia softball team hosts Boston College in an Atlantic Coast Conference three-game series Friday and Saturday (March 29-30) at The Park in Charlottesville. Friday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 5 p.m., while Saturday’s single game is slated for a noon start.

Admission to Virginia softball games at The Park is free to the public. Live stats will be available and linked through VirginiaSports.com. Before Friday’s doubleheader, there will be a free tailgate with pizza and soda starting at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, there will be a post-game running of the bases, autographs and candy hunt for youths.

Virginia (12-15, 1-5 ACC) looks to bounce back after dropping three games at Maryland last weekend (March 23-24). Junior Marcy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va.) leads the Cavaliers with a .354 batting average, while classmate Karli Johnson (Lovettsville, Va.) leads the team with four home runs.

Senior pitcher Melanie Mitchell (White Plains, Md.) has 72 career wins and stands just two wins shy of the program record, held by Lisa Palmer (74). She currently has 985 career strikeouts and is 15 strikeouts shy of becoming UVa’s first 1,000-strikeout pitcher. This year, Mitchell is 9-9 with a 2.52 ERA and 154 strikeouts in 125.0 innings of work.

Boston College (8-15, 1-3 ACC) is led by Tory Speer, who has a .418 batting average with nine home runs. Chelsea Dimon is 6-6 in the circle for the Eagles with a 6.85 ERA.

Up next, the Cavaliers travel to Fairfax, Va., for a doubleheader against George Mason on April 3 at 4 p.m.
