CHARLOTTESVILLE – For the second consecutive week, the Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams will host a meet at Lannigan Field as they welcome seven schools for Saturday’s Virginia Invitational. The Cavaliers will compete against the men’s and women’s teams from Charlotte, Georgetown, Kent State, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Norfolk State and Robert Morris, and the women’s team from Loyola (Md.).

The field action begins at 9 a.m., with the hammer throw, and jumping events begin at noon with the pole vault. Running events are scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m., starting with the preliminaries of the 100 meter hurdles. Admission to the meet is free and concessions and merchandise will be available for purchase.

The meet includes four teams that are reigning conference champions. The Charlotte men and women both won Atlantic 10 championship last year, the Kent State women are the MAC Champions and the Norfolk State men have won seven consecutive MEAC championships.

In addition to Saturday’s meet, the Cavaliers will have one athlete competing at the Stanford Invitational on Friday night. Senior Catherine White will take on an elite field from across the nation in the women’s 10,000 meters in Palo Alto, Calif.

The Cavaliers made their home debut last week with the Virginia Cup at Lannigan Field. Virginia won 10 individual events at the meet, including two by sophomore Jordan Lavender, who won both the women’s 100 meter and 200 meter titles.

Virginia will return to action next weekend as they travel to Berkeley, Calif., for a tri-meet with Cal and Michigan.
