CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The No. 1 Virginia rowing team travels to the West Coast this weekend (April 6-7) for the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay in San Diego, Calif.

The 40th edition of the San Diego Crew Classic will feature more than 100 races over two days with more than 3,400 athletes compete from more than 120 schools and rowing clubs. Live video and results will be available and linked through VirginiaSports.com.

Two weeks ago, top-ranked Virginia won 17 races at the Oak Ridge Invitational in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and the first Varsity Eight was named the ACC Crew of the Week.

The Cavaliers’ first Varsity Eight will compete for the Jessop-Whittier Cup against boats from some of the nation’s top schools, including No. 2 California, No. 6 USC, No. 7 Washington, No. 9 UCLA, No. 14 Wisconsin and No. 19 Washington State. UVa is in the first heat on Saturday, scheduled to begin at 12:10 p.m.

Virginia’s Varsity Four will compete for the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup and will be in the first heat at 12:30 p.m. UVa’s Second Varsity Four will compete in the B final at 12:50 p.m.

The Cavaliers’ Second Varsity Eight will also be in action, competing for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy. UVa is in the second heat that is scheduled to start at 2:10 p.m.

Virginia’s Novice Eight will be in the third heat in the competition for the Laurel V. Korholz Perpetual Trophy at 3:10 p.m.

The top six boats from each division will compete in grand finals on Sunday, with the V8 at 12:20 p.m., the 2V8 at 1 p.m., the V4 at 1:20 p.m. and the N8 grand final at 2:10 p.m.

Up next, the Cavaliers will compete in the Clemson Invitational on Lake Hartwell April 20-21 in Clemson, S.C.
