Women's Tennis Hosts Three Matches This Weekend

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 18 Virginia hosts Wake Forest, No. 44 NC State and East Tennessee State in women’s tennis action this weekend at Snyder Tennis Center.
The Cavaliers (10-7, 4-1 ACC) host Wake Forest (1-14, 0-5 ACC) on Saturday, April 6 at 12 p.m. Virginia battles NC State (10-5, 1-4 ACC) and East Tennessee State (9-4, 4-0 A-Sun) on Sunday, April 7 at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Virginia has won seven of its last eight matches and is coming off its first win against a top-ranked opponent, defeating No. 1 North Carolina, 4-3, last Saturday.
No. 15 Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) earned her second ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor after going 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles last week. Elbaba is 10-6 in dual action, including a 5-0 ACC singles mark.
No. 65 Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) and senior Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) have 10 dual singles wins apiece, while junior Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) has eight wins.
Elbaba and Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) are 7-2 in doubles and Vierra and Nauta are 6-3. Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) and Li Xi (Kunming, China) have added a 3-1 mark at No. 3 doubles.
The Cavaliers, who are 19-24 all-time against Wake Forest, defeated the Demon Deacons 6-1 and 4-0 last season. Wake Forest has lost 14 consecutive matches since defeating Richmond, 7-0, on Jan. 26.
Virginia is 28-9 all-time against the Wolfpack, including a 5-2 win in Raleigh last season. NC State’s Joelle Kissell (No. 35) and Tatiana Illova (No. 92) are ranked in singles. The Cavaliers are 1-0 all-time against East Tennessee State.
