BANGALORE, India – Three Virginia alumni helped lead their nations to Davis Cup success this past weekend. Somdev Devvarman (Class of 2008) and Sanam Singh (Class of 2011) led India to a 5-0 win over Indonesia, while Treat Huey (Class of 2008) helped the Philippines to a 4-1 win over Thailand.

In India’s 5-0 win over Indonesia in a Asia/Oceania Group I Relegation Playoff tie in Bangalore, Devvarman posted a pair of singles victories. He downed Wisnu Adi Nugroho 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 on Friday and topped David Agung Susanto 6-3, 6-1 on Sunday. The victory was clinched on Saturday in doubles as Singh paired with Indian legend Leander Paes for a 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 victory.

The Philippines topped Thailand 4-1 in the second round of Asia/Oceania Group II and will play New Zealand in September for promotion into Group I next year. Huey teamed with Pepperdine’s Francis Alcantara to win in doubles, 6-3, 6-3, 7-6(4).
