Greensboro, N.C. – Led by senior Brittany Altomare, the 13th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is in second place after the opening round of play at the ACC Championships taking place at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. Virginia shot 16-over 300 on the par-71 course during extremely windy playing conditions. Duke, ranked third, leads the field at 293. NC State is one shot behind the Cavaliers at 301.

Altomare shot even par 71 to own a one-shot lead after the first 18 holes. She had two birdies, including one on the 18th hole, to go along with 14 pars and two bogies during her round.

Altomare leads UVa with a 72.29 stroke average, which is second among ACC competitors. She is ranked No. 13 in the latest Golfweek individual standings and No. 10 in the Golfstat standings.

Briana Mao finished the day in sixth place for Virginia. She finished at 3-over 74. Portland Rosen is in 12th place at 76, Elizabeth Brighwell is in 27th position at 79 and Nicole Agnello carded an 82 to finish 37th.
