CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia softball team welcomes NC State for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series this weekend (April 20-21) at The Park in Charlottesville. Saturday’s doubleheader and Sunday’s single game are set for noon starts.

The Cavaliers (18-22, 3-12 ACC) return home after dropping a three-game series at Florida State last weekend. Junior Marcy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va.) leads UVa with a .328 batting average, while senior Melanie Mitchell (White Plains, Md.) is 13-13 on the season with a 2.37 ERA and 218 strikeouts in 174.0 innings pitched.

NC State comes into the weekend with a record of 23-18-1 (7-7 ACC) after winning two of three against North Carolina. Chelsea Tate leads the Wolfpack with a .315 batting average, while Renanda Davis and Caitlin Dent lead the team with 18 and 10 home runs, respectively. Emily Weiman has seen most of the action in the circle for NC State with a 21-16 record, a 2.11 ERA and 198 strikeouts in 235.0 innings pitched.

Last year, NC State won two of three in Charlottesville, taking the first game, 2-0, and the finale, 5-1. The Cavaliers won the second contest, 15-5, in five innings.

Up next, the Cavaliers travel to Lynchburg, Va., on April 24 for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. before hosting Virginia Tech in the final weekend of the regular season (April 28-29). Sunday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m., while Monday night’s single game is slated for a 7 p.m. start and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
