CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 17 Virginia defeated No. 32 Florida State, 4-0, in Atlantic Coast Conference women’s tennis action Saturday afternoon at Snyder Tennis Center.

The Cavaliers improve to 15-8 overall and 8-2 in the ACC, while Florida State falls to 12-8, 4-6 ACC. Virginia’s eight ACC wins establish a new single-season school record, besting the seven league wins in 2011 and 2012.

Virginia claimed the doubles point and senior Hana Tomljanovic, junior Li Xi (Kunming, China) and freshman Julia Elbaba(Oyster Bay, N.Y.) posted singles wins against the Seminoles.

Florida State struck first in doubles as Kristina Schleich and Kerrie Cartwright beat senior Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) and Xi, 8-1, at No. 3. Senior Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) and freshman Stephanie Nauta(Galveston, Texas) beat Daneika Borthwick and Francesca Segarelli, 8-6, at No. 1 and Tomljanovic and Elbaba clinched the point with a 9-7 win over Mia Vriens and Amy Sargeant at No. 2.

Tomljanovic won by retirement over Vriens at No. 3 and Xi downed No. 110 Sargeant 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4. No. 12 Elbaba clinched the win and ended the match with a 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 decision over No. 57 Borthwick at No. 1.

The Cavaliers conclude the regular season Sunday against Miami on Senior Day at Snyder Tennis Center. Seniors Vierra, Tomljanovic and Fuccillo will be honored prior to first serve, which is set for 12 p.m.
