CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team looks for its seventh-consecutive ACC Championship, and its ninth title in the past 10 years, as it travels to Cary N.C., for the 2013 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship this weekend at the Cary Tennis Park. After a first-round bye, the top-seeded Cavaliers (21-0, 10-0 ACC) will meet either North Carolina or Miami in the quarterfinals on Friday at 9 a.m.

Eighth-seeded North Carolina (11-12, 4-6 ACC) and ninth-seeded Miami (13-12, 2-8 ACC) meet in the first round on Thursday, with the winner meeting the Cavaliers in the quarterfinals on Friday. Virginia won the regular season meeting with the Tar Heels 6-1 on March 24 at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers downed the Hurricanes 6-1 in the final regular season match of the season on Sunday in Coral Gables.

Virginia completed its seventh-consecutive undefeated ACC regular season last week with victories at Florida State and Miami. The Cavaliers have won a conference-record 103 consecutive matches against ACC competition (regular season and postseason), dating back to a 4-3 loss to Duke in the 2006 ACC Tournament final. In each of the past 10 seasons, Virginia has won at least a share of the ACC regular season title.

Since the ACC Championship moved to the team format in 1986, only Duke (11 championships) has won more titles than Virginia (eight). The Cavaliers have a 27-3 record in the event during the Brian Boland era.

If the Cavaliers advance in the tournament, their semifinal match will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The championship match is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday
