CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 3 seed Virginia (16-8, 9-2 ACC) will play No. 11 seed Virginia Tech (14-11, 2-9 ACC) in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Championship on Friday, April 26. First serve at Cary (N.C.) Tennis Park is set for 3 p.m.

The Cavaliers won a school-best nine ACC matches, tied for second in the ACC regular season standings and have won eight of their last nine matches overall. Virginia is coming off a two-match sweep, defeating No. 30 Florida State (4-0) and No. 10 Miami (4-1) last weekend at Snyder Tennis Center.

Virginia defeated Virginia Tech, 6-1, in Charlottesville earlier this season. The Cavaliers are 2-0 against the Hokies at the ACC championship.

The Cavaliers, who are No. 13 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, are led by senior co-captains Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) and Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.). Vierra, Fuccillo and senior Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) will graduate as the most successful class in UVa women’s tennis history, amassing a 71-34 dual record and 30-15 mark in ACC play. The seniors will lead the Cavaliers into their school-record fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament in May.

ACC Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Year Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) is ranked No. 12 in the latest ITA singles rankings. Elbaba is 15-7 in dual play, including a 10-1 ACC mark, and leads the Cavaliers with 31 singles wins. Elbaba was joined on the All-ACC Women’s Tennis Team by freshman Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas), who is ranked No. 73 and second on the team with 27 singles wins. Tomljanovic has won her last four matches and has eight wins at No. 3 singles. Junior Li Xi (Kunming, China) has four wins at No. 4, while Vierra is 13-7 in dual action and has nine wins at the No. 5 position. Junior Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) went 9-0 in ACC dual play and has 11 wins at No. 6.

In doubles, Vierra and Nauta are 9-6 and have seven wins at No. 1. Elbaba and Tomljanovic are 14-3 overall and 12-3 in dual play. Elbaba and Tomljanovic have eight wins at No. 2 doubles. Xi and Fuccillo have added a 7-3 mark at No. 3 doubles. Vierra is ranked No. 20 in doubles with freshman Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.), while Xi and Nauta are No. 34.

Virginia Tech is led by All-ACC performer Ilinca Stoica, who is ranked No. 125 in singles. The Hokies had lost nine consecutive matches prior to their 4-3 win over No. 6 seed Duke today.

ACC championship action begins with first-round matches today and continues through Sunday’s 11 a.m. championship match.
