Columbus, Ohio – The Virginia men’s golf team is in 11th place after the opening round of the NCAA Regional taking place at the Ohio State Golf Club’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. The Cavaliers shot 19-over 303 on the par-71 course. Charlotte, which entered the regional as the No. 12 seed, leads the 13-team field at 3-over 287. South Carolina, ranked No. 20, is second at 288 and No. 8 Stanford is third at 291.

The top five teams from the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships. There are six regionals being contested through Saturday.

David Pastore led Virginia with a score of 2-over 73. He stands in 16th place following the opening round. Denny McCarthy finished one shot behind Pastore and is in 24th place. Ji Soo Park shot 6-over 77 and is 53rd while Nick Tremps is in 66th place at 79 and Mac McLaughlin is 74th at 83.

Charlotte’s Raoul Menard posted the day’s best score, shooting 4-under 67. He enters the second round one stroke ahead of UNLV’s Carl Jonson and South Carolina’s Will Starke.

The Cavaliers will tee off at 8:50 a.m. Friday from the 10th tee to start their second round. The final 18 holes are scheduled for Saturday. Virginia will be paired with Texas Tech and Chattanooga during the second round.
