CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia freshman standout Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and the doubles tandem of freshman Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) and junior Li Xi (Kunming, China) will compete in the 2013 NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships, beginning Wednesday (May 22) at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Illinois.

Elbaba, who earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference and ACC Freshman of the Year honors, is seeded No. 9-16, becoming the first Virginia women’s seeded player in the NCAA Singles Championship. Elbaba will take on Tennessee’s Brynn Boren in the round of 64 on Wednesday, May 22 at 12 p.m. ET. Elbaba defeated No. 24 Boren, 6-3, 7-5, earlier this season.

Elbaba is ranked No. 12 nationally and leads the Cavaliers with a 34-11 overall record and 18-9 mark in dual action. Elbaba’s 34 victories established a new UVa record for first-year players and are second on the Cavalier single-season wins list. She advanced to the finals of the ITA All-American in October and achieved a school-record No. 4 singles ranking on Jan. 3.

Xi and Nauta are ranked No. 32 with a 15-11 record. The Virginia duo achieved a school-best finish at a major tournament, placing second at the ITA Intercollegiate Indoor Doubles Championship on Nov. 11. Xi and Nauta battle Pepperdine’s Lorraine Guillermo and Khunpak Issara in the round of 32 on Thursday, May 23. Xi and Nauta defeated No. 17 Guillermo and Issara, 7-5, 6-2, in the semifinals of the ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship in November.
