Elbaba Advances to Round of 32 at NCAA Singles Championship

URBANA, Ill. – Virginia freshman standout Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) defeated Tennessee’s Brynn Boren, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 on Wednesday (May 22) in the round of 64 at the 2013 NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championship at Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Illinois.
The match was delayed after the first set due to rain, but No. 12 Elbaba completed the win over No. 24 Boren in three sets and improved to 35-11 overall. Elbaba will play North Carolina’s Caroline Price in the round of 32 on Thursday, May 23 at 10 a.m. ET.
UVa’s Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) and Li Xi (Kunming, China) open the NCAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Championship tomorrow against Pepperdine’s Lorraine Guillermo and Khunpak Issara in the round of 32 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
