ACC Release

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today the women’s basketball league opponents for all 15 institutions for the 2013-14 season. Virginia’s home slate is highlighted by home contests against Clemson, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech.

“With the additions of Pitt, Notre Dame and Syracuse, the ACC schedule is going to be even more challenging and exciting this season,” Virginia head coach Joanne Boyle said. “There are going to be some fantastic match-ups played at John Paul Jones Arena and we are definitely looking to our fans to help recreate the loud and supportive atmosphere we felt at our home court last season.”

Virginia will face each of the 14 conference opponents, including newcomers Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse, during the 16-game league schedule. The Cavaliers will play six opponents solely at home, six only on the road and two opponents, Florida State and Virginia Tech, in home-and-away series.

Virginia will face Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, NC State, Syracuse and Wake Forest in road-only contests this season with Clemson, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pitt and Virginia Tech coming to John Paul Jones Arena.

Virginia’s entire 2013-14 women’s basketball schedule will be released at a later date.

The 2013-14 Virginia squad will be anchored by Ataira Franklin, an All-ACC first team honoree last season who ranked in the top-10 in the conference with a 14.3 points-per-game average. 2012 ACC All-Defensive team member Lexie Gerson will also return to the court to play her redshirt senior season after missing all of last season recovering from hip surgery. The seven returning letterwinners will be joined by a top-10-ranked recruiting class that includes two Gatorade State Players of the Year, Amanda Fioravanti (Maryland) and Breyana Mason (Virginia).
