CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Corey Dick went 3-for-4, including a home run and double, and Matt Keeler had three hits to lead UNCW’s 16-hit attack in a 9-5 win over Army on Saturday (June 1) in an elimination game at the 2013 NCAA Charlottesville Regional before 3,342 fans at Davenport Field.

UNCW (38-22) will play the loser of tonight’s Virginia-Elon contest on Sunday (June 2) at 1 p.m. Army, who made its sixth NCAA Baseball Championship appearance, finished the season with a 29-23 record.

Michael Bass, Tyler Molinaro, Ryan LaGrange and Drew Farber added two hits each for UNCW. Luke Dunlap, Molinaro and Dick scored two runs apiece.

UNCW starting pitcher Jordan Ramsey (6-6) allowed two runs on four hits in 4.2 innings. Christian MacDonald (5-1) earned the win, allowing no runs on one walk and one strikeout before exiting with runners on first and second in the ninth. Kelly Secrest earned the save on a rare triple play to end the game. Secrest struck out Jon Crucitti and Grant Van Orden was caught stealing second and Michael Sands was caught stealing third.

Mark McCants went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Andrew Johnson and Van Orden each drove in one run for Army. Alex Jensen scored two of the Black Knights’ five runs.

Army starting pitcher Alex Robinett (7-4) took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits in 1.2 innings. UNCW tallied four runs of reliever Gunnar Carroll, but Brock Davidson, Brian Haperman and Jack Verrill combined for 5.1 innings of scoreless relief.

The Seahawks jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Bass led off with a single, stole second and scored on Dunlap’s single. Dunlap was balked to second and scored on Molinaro’s seeing-eye single to right. Molinaro then scored on Keeler’s single to left.

Army cut the deficit to 3-1 with an unearned run in the bottom of the first as Jensen scored on shortstop Terrence Connelly’s throwing error.

The Seahawks made it 5-1 in the second as Molinaro and LaGrange recorded RBI singles and Dick’s solo home run in the third made it 6-1.

The Seahawks plated three more runs in the fourth for a 9-1 lead. Molinaro scored on a passed ball, Dick and Keeler ripped back-to-back doubles and Farber had an RBI single.

Army tallied one run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth as Harold Earls was balked in and McCants and Johnson delivered RBI singles.

The Black Knights put runners on second and third in the seventh, but MacDonald got McCants to fly out to end the inning.
