Virginia's Incoming Recruiting Class Tabbed No. 12 in Nation
June 3, 2013
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia volleyball team’s incoming class of 2013 has been tabbed the No. 12 recruiting class in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com. The group of six student-athletes, which includes Jasmine Burton, Haley Kole, Meghan McDowell, Lexi Riccolo, Karlie Suber and Alex Thorson, is the first full class under second-year head coach Dennis Hohenshelt and is the highest ranked class in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
“I am excited for our incoming student athletes,” Hohenshelt said. “This ranking is a direct reflection of all the great things they have accomplished over the last year. It is our program’s goal to recruit the best players in the country year in and year out. While this is a great accomplishment, I have informed them that I will be much more interested in where they will be ranked at the end of their UVa career than at the beginning.”
Both McDowell (Clarendon, Ill.) and Kole (Tallahassee, Fla.) were named in the top 50 on PrepVolleyball.com’s Senior Aces list, while Burton (West Hills, Calif.) and Thorson (The Woodlands, Texas) were recognized in the Senior Aces’ top 150.
The class will bring depth at many positions for the Cavaliers with Burton, Kole and Thorson up front as outside hitters, Riccolo (Wheaton, Ill.) and Suber (Mechanicsville, Va.) in the back row as defensive specialists and McDowell as a setter.
In addition to the group of six incoming freshman, rising sophomore setter Lauren Fuller (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) will join the Cavaliers as a transfer from Arizona. Fuller tallied 539 assists and 133 digs in 29 matches for the Wildcats.
