EUGENE, Ore. – Virginia junior Barbara Strehler represented the Cavaliers during day three of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday at Hayward Field. Strehler placed 22nd in the women’s 5000m as she made her NCAA Track & Field Championships debut.

Strehler finished in a time of 16:39.68 to cross the line in 22nd place. She had run a PR of 16:07.70 at the NCAA East Preliminary meet in Greensboro, N.C., the fourth-best time in school history, two weeks ago to qualify for the meet.

“Barbara had a great year for us,” said assistant coach Todd Morgan. “I couldn’t be prouder of how focused and consistent she has been for the team.”

The Cavaliers will have one more athlete compete at the meet as Mark Amirault competes in the men’s 5000m on Saturday (6:23 p.m. ET). Yesterday, Thomas Porter earned second-team All-America honors by finishing 16th in men’s 10000m. On Wednesday, Abbey Karin placed 19th in the women’s javelin.

Live results from the meet will be available on VirginiaSports.com, while Saturday’s events will be broadcast on ESPNU.
