MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Virginia men’s golfer Nick Tremps qualified for the 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at a sectional qualifier conducted on Monday at Independence Golf Club. Tremps, a rising junior for the Cavaliers, is one of three players to advance from the event.

Tremps placed third at 1-under 143. He finished two shots behind 25-year-old Addison Lambeth of Brown Summit, N.C. and 34-year-old Mark Cusic of California, Md. Tremps had rounds of 73 and 70.

The U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship will be held in northern Virginia July 15-20 at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton. The field will include 156 competitors.

Tremps shot 4-under 32 over his final nine holes of qualifying to secure the final spot. He birdied four of the first six holes of the inward half, Nos. 10, 12, 14 and his longest birdie make in that important stretch was a 10-footer at No. 15 to cap the second nine surge.

Tremps competed in the 2011 Amateur Public Links Championship at Bandon Dunes.

“I’m really excited because it’s going to be nice to compete again,” Tremps said. “I think I have a chance to play well and, from there, see how far I can go in the event.”
