Altomare Consensus Pick for VaSID Player of the Year

Lynchburg, Va. – The 2013 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State women’s golf squad was released Thursday and Virginia senior Brittany Altomare (Shrewsbury, Mass.) earned every vote for state Player of the Year. James Madison University head coach Paul Gooden was named Coach of the Year, while Olivia Bowling from Randolph-Macon College was tabbed as VaSID Rookie of the Year.

Altomare had a stellar season for the Cavaliers. She was named a first-team All-American by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association and Golfweek. She earned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year honors, after winning the ACC individual title. Altomare was All-ACC four consecutive seasons, this year being honored after leading the Cavaliers with a 72.23 stroke average.

The Virginia senior was ranked No. 8 in the final Golfweek individual standings, ending the year 11th in Golfstat’s rankings. She posted five top-three finishes during the season, including ending her UVa career with the most top-10 finishes in program history with 19. She owns school records for lowest single-season stroke average, as well as career stroke average at 73.13.

Altomare was joined on the all-state team by UVa sophomore Briana Mao, who was also an All-ACC pick in 2013.
