Frederick, Md. – Virginia rising junior Ji Soo Park was the model of consistency in leading a starting field of 72 players through two rounds of sectional U.S. Amateur Public Links qualifying at Clustered Spires Golf Club in Frederick, Md., on Wednesday, June 5.

Park registered four successive nines of 34 for 68-68–136, five shots clear of runner-up Sean Knapp, 73-68–141, to finish first at the sectional and earn one of the three places available for the national championship.

Park, 20, highlighted his play with birdies at six of the eight par-5’s (four each round).

“They were all reachable in two,” he said. “I missed a few fairways and probably three-four greens, but they were two good rounds.”

It will be his first championship, as he failed to advance in this event last year.

The 88th U.S. Amateur Public Links championship will be played July 15-20 at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Va.
