CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia field hockey head coach Michele Madison has added a ninth incoming first-year to her 2013 roster, announcing that Lucy Hyams (Whitestable, Kent, England) will join the squad.

Hyams has played midfield and forward for the Hockey England U16 (2008-10) and U18 (2010-12) national teams and is currently vying for a spot on the U21 team. Hyams won a bronze medal at the 2011 European Championship in Holland with the Hockey England U18 team and has been previously named the Junior Hockey Player of the Year.

“Lucy is an extremely-high-level player with England’s U21 and U18 teams and will add depth to our midfield,” Madison said. “We look forward to her challenging for significant playing time with our team next year. She and her family worked hard to make this happen and we are excited to have her on the squad.”

Hyams is the ninth player to commit to joining the 2013 squad as a freshman. She will be joined by fellow first-years Katie Kelly, Caleigh Foust, Macy Peebles, Emilia Tapsall, Emily Faught, Riley Tata, Megan Kelly and Jeannie Blackwood when the Cavaliers return to Grounds for fall camp in early August.
