Bocklet Named VaSID State Player of the Year

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia attacker Casey Bocklet (So., South Salem, N.Y.) was named the 2013 All-State University Division Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year, as voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Julie Myers was named the All-State University Division Women’s Lacrosse Coach of the Year while six players garnered all-state honors.
Bocklet, playing in her first season at Virginia, scored 44 goals and assisted on 23 others for 67 points for the Cavaliers. Bocklet was named to the IWLCA All-America third team and the IWLCA All-South Region second team after ranking among the top-50 players in the nation in points and assists. Bocklet was also named to the VaSID all-state first team.
In addition to Bocklet, Virginia had three players earn first team honors with defender Megan Dunleavy (Sr., Fairfax Station, Va.) and midfielders Morgan Stephens (So., Olney, Md.) and Courtney Swan (So., Vero Beach, Fla.) earning the accolade. Goalkeeper Kim Kolarik (Sr., Riva, Md.) and defender Maddy Keeshan (Jr., Greenwich, Ct.) earned second team All-State honors.
Dunleavy, one of two captains for the 2013 squad, earned All-ACC honors and was named to the IWLCA All-South Region second team as the anchor of the Cavalier defense. Stephens, an IWLCA All-South Region second team selection, led the team with 29 ground balls and was second with 52 draw controls. Stephens tallied 30 points with 24 goals and six assists. Swan, a member of the All-ACC team, ranked third in the conference and 21st in the NCAA in draw controls, averaging 4.05 per game. She ranked third on the team in goals (28), assists (11) and points (39).
Kolarik was the VaSID All-State second team goalkeeper. A member of the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, Kolarik ranked second in the ACC in saves per game, averaging 6.36, and third in the conference with a 9.57 goals-against average. Keeshan, a defender, led the Cavaliers with 18 caused turnovers, also tallying 21 ground balls and 11 draw controls.
Myers, in her 18th season as the Cavaliers’ head coach, led her squad to its 18th-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to the quarterfinals before falling to eventual-National Champion North Carolina. The Cavaliers, playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation, finished the year with an 11-10 record and were ranked No. 9 in the final IWLCA poll. Myers led her team to a perfect 5-0 record against in-state teams during the season.
