CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia senior guard Joe Harris (Chelan, Wash.) has withdrawn from the upcoming 2013 USA Basketball Men’s World University Games Team training camp due to a stress reaction in his left foot, Cavalier head coach Tony Bennett announced Friday (June 21).

Harris is expected to miss 3-6 weeks with the injury. He was set to compete for one of 12 roster spots on the USA Basketball Men’s World University Games Team during the training camp held June 24-30 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 2013 World University Games will be held July 7-16 in Kazan, Russia.

“Obviously, we are disappointed for Joe because he was really looking forward to this opportunity with USA Basketball,” Bennett said. “Joe has worked really hard and he was excited about competing and measuring his game against some great players. His senior season and future professional career are the main priorities moving forward. We’ll ensure he gets the proper rest and rehabilitation, so he’ll be ready for the 2013-14 season.”

Harris earned All-ACC first-team honors in 2012-13 after leading Virginia with a career-best 16.3 points per game. He tallied 20 or more points in nine games, including a career-high 36 in a 73-68 win over Duke.
