Cle Elum, Wash. – Rising Virginia junior women’s golfer Briana Mao (Folsom, Calif.) won the U.S. Women’s Amateur Qualifier played at Prospector at Suncadia in Cle Elum, Wash., to qualify for this year’s championship. The U.S. Women’s Amateur will be held Aug. 5-11 in Charleston, S.C. at the Country Club of Charleston.

Mao shot 3-under 69 to place first in a field that featured 60 competitors. She was the only golfer to shoot under par. Mao had seven birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey during her round.

Mao qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open Championship in 2012.
